All in On-Campus

AOL Inc. and its subsidiary Patch Media Corporation recently announced that Hofstra will be the pioneer university for PatchU, a newly launched networking opportunity between the professional journalists of Patch online publications and students of several journalism schools. University students will have the opportunity to work out of Dempster Hall's News Hub for the Mineola Patch site as an internship for college credit.

With the spotlights and red carpet, an observer might have expected to see a movie star like Tom Cruise or Jennifer Lopez make an appearance. But on Sept. 16, the other stars were put aside for 10 local high school students who participated in Hofstra's Documenting Diversity film project. Friends and family gathered for the big event in the John Cranford Adams Playhouse at Hofstra University to watch documentaries created by the students that capture the lives of total strangers. The mood at the event was jovial, as the happy students took in the crowd of cheering fans.

Dozens of vendors overflowing with trinkets, a guitar orchestra and lots of tomato sauce. South Campus was the site of the 18th annual Italian Experience Festival on Sunday, Sept. 19 where booths of over 50 local vendors covered the quads and Italian music was the backdrop for the entire afternoon. The festival is one of the largest of its kind in the country and has become a Long Island tradition.

On Sept. 15, a University administrator was jogging near the dome parking lot when a male in a BMW approached her and asked to buy the socks she was wearing for $20. She kept running until she saw a PSO who assisted her and did a search of the campus, which proved negative.

At one point or another in any given semester, Hofstra students are likely to find that the food options Lackmann provides have gone from enticing to lackluster. The usual fare becomes mundane and tasteless, and as meal plans begin to dwindle down into the hundreds, finding good yet affordable food on campus seems next to impossible. However, if you know where to look, you may just find a dish that delivers in flavor, yet doesn't break the bank.

www.Urbandictionary.com defines the term "Hofstra squirt" as "When you eat Hofstra food for more than two days in a row. And at unexpected times you try to fart and it feels wet. You feel like you may have shat yourself but maybe not...Upon further inspection you realize that you squirted a little bit out of your asshole. But not enough to leave the cheeks it doesn't get on your boxers but it still sucks. Hofstra red is not real. The Hofstra Squirt is...for sure".
