SGA's Club Relations was left without a new chair at Tuesday's senate meeting. The chair was vacated when former Chair Dan Lebo graduated at the end of the 2010-2011 school year.
For many students, the fall semester is just beginning. For the medical students of Hofstra and North Shore LIJ's School of Medicine, classes have been in session for well over a month. The School of Medicine welcomed its inaugural class of 40 students (20 women and 20 men) through its doors on Aug. 1.
"Blue and gold make green," said sophomore Patrick Starke when asked about Hofstra's efforts toward sustainability. And with the Princeton Review recognizing Hofstra University as one of 311 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada committed to living more sustainably, Hofstra truly is working to become a "greener," more environmentally friendly community.
The wait for Dutch Treats and Hofstra USA is finally over: Dutch Treats opened last Thursday, Sept. 8, and as of Wednesday, Sept. 14, Hofstra USA is now open as well.
A vehicle with three males was reported to be driving around north campus verbally abusing and harassing female students on Sept. 9. Public Safety responded, took the males to the Hofstra Information Center, identified the males as non-students and banned them from campus.
Student Government President David Zuniga has been on the job for just two weeks, but has already made it his mission to improve the organization and let the student body know how much he wants to do so.

During the first days of Fall 2011 at The University, the class of 2015 was thrown into a whirlwind of events and attractions that upperclassmen could have only dreamed about during previous Welcome Weeks.
The week included activities such as a Tracy Kidder discussion and book signing, mini golf in Axinn Library, a boardwalk in the Student Center, Hofstra's Got Talent and more.
This summer, five students devoted their entire vacation to transforming the Calkins Hall computer lab from a place with industrial rows of computers to a high-tech meeting spot for software tutoring or group work.
A female student reported to Public Safety that on Sept. 3, when she returned to her room in Vander Poel Hall, she found two males asleep on her bed. When she asked them what they were doing they got up and left her room without incident. Nothing was reported to be missing and the locks were changed.
With Relay for Life taking place at The University, the initiative to help raise money for cancer research made its way around campus. The Bill of Rights and Alliance Hall Council organized "Penny Wars," to help raise money that would be donated to Relay for Life.
About 1,000 people gathered on the intramural fields to participate in Hofstra's Relay for Life, which ran from 7 p.m. on April 30th until the next morning.
SGA's meeting Tuesday night approved a new non-governmental organization (NGO) and future constitutional convention, all before next year's cabinet was selected. This last night, before next year's cabinet will assume their posts, focused on the future.
On the University Senate, faculty and students come together with roughly equal representation and propose actions they would like President Stuart Rabinowitz to adopt for The University. Many of Hofstra's divisions have one to three elected faculty members representing them; Student representation includes both undergraduate and graduate members.
A Lackmann staff member reported to Public Safety on April 27 that two weeks prior, a student attempted to use the ID card of another student to purchase food in the cafeteria. Both students were issued appearance summonses for violations of the Hofstra ID Policy.
With 546 votes David Zuniga and Alex Zelinski were elected as Student Government Association President and Vice President. Their opponents Kalyn Gambord and Maryann Lucks received 424.
Five non-students were reported to be trespassing on the intramural fields on April 21. Public Safety responded and when the officers questioned the trespassers, they could not provide a valid reason for being on the field. They were escorted to the HIC and banned from campus.
Next Monday, May 2 will be Robyn Kaplan's two-month anniversary—not of a wedding, but of the day she first came to Hofstra, filling the role of Associate Director in the Office of Student Leadership and Activities.
Hofstra students, who purchase Poland Spring water on campus, also purchase the same product at a cheaper price off campus or chug from a canteen. Reusable containers are on the rise among the environmentally and financially conscious students at Hofstra.
