In the heat of the dog days of summer, the Hofstra field hockey team reported to campus for the start of preseason for the 2023 Coastal Athletic Association lacrosse season. Last season followed a similar familiar trend for the Hofstra Pride, with the team finishing under .500 for the seventh straight season. Despite recent struggles, the Hofstra field hockey team comes into this season with high hopes to get the team back to the CAA championship playoffs for the first time since 2015.
The Hofstra field hockey team extended their losing streak to four with their 6-4 loss to the University of Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens 6-4 on Sunday, Oct. 23. The Pride’s record is now 6-10 and 1-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
The Hofstra University field hockey team suffered a 2-0 shutout, its third consecutive loss, to the Drexel University Dragons in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) game on Friday, Oct. 21. The Pride’s record falls to 6-9 on the season and 1-4 in conference play.

On Friday, Oct. 7, the Hofstra University field hockey team won 1-0 in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) matchup against the Towson University Tigers. The Pride improves to 6-6 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
What started as help with the summer clinic landed former forward Ming Doherty an assistant coaching position with the Hofstra field hockey team. It all began on a Sunday morning over the summer as she was taking a lap around the Hofstra field hockey field. It just so happened that Hofstra head coach Courtney Veinotte and assistant coach Caitlin Bennett had been conducting a field hockey clinic and asked for Doherty’s assistance.
The Hofstra field hockey team won a wild match with a last-second Hail Mary shot to edge past the Bryant University Bulldogs 3-2 on Sunday, Oct. 2.
The Hofstra field hockey team lost 2-1 in double overtime game against Northeastern University at Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium on Friday, Sept 30, in what was the first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) game of the season for both teams.
The Hofstra field hockey team recorded their third shutout of the season on Friday, Sept. 23, defeating Sacred Heart University 3-0 at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium.
The Hofstra Field Hockey team suffered a 1-0 loss on Sunday, Sept. 18, against No. 10 Syracuse University. The Pride held their ground in a defensive bout, suffering their fifth loss on the year. Hofstra goalie Merlijn van der Vegt was once again stellar in net, making seven saves in the contest.

On Sept. 10, the Hofstra women’s field hockey team faced off against the Kent State Golden Flashes for the first time ever. Hofstra was victorious 2-1 in overtime after Simryn Desai scored the winning goal. The Pride broke their four-game losing streak and have now improved to 2-4 on the season.
The Hofstra Pride field hockey team dropped its fourth consecutive contest on the road against the University of Maine, on Friday, Sep. 9, at the UMaine Field Hockey Complex in a non-conference tilt. With the loss, the Pride now sit at 1-4 in the early going of the season.
Goals late in the game from Tara McNally and Teresa Karoff brought the Hofstra field hockey team within one, but the Pride couldn't come up with the tying score as they fell to Villanova University 3-2 on Saturday.
After months away from the bleachers, the court, the mat, and the field, the field hockey team is ready to get back to work.
The Hofstra field hockey team went on the road and defeated Fairfield University 2-1 on Sunday, Oct. 17. This was a very defensive game with just 23 combined shots through 80 minutes. Fairfield’s goalkeeper Zoe Rosen recorded five saves and played the whole game.
The Hofstra Pride field hockey team battled late, but their comeback attempt fell short as they lost at home to the No. 21 University of Delaware Blue Hens on Friday, Oct. 8, 3-2. Delaware received goals from Julia Duffhuis and Morgan Rigual, while Djuna Slort and Eline Oldeman scored for the Pride.
After stepping into Virginia for two conference matchups, the Hofstra field hockey team left without a win. The Pride were on the hunt for redemption on Sunday, Oct. 3, against the James Madison University (JMU) Dukes but lost 5-1. The Dukes have been weathering a difficult schedule all season that has seen them face three nationally ranked opponents this season.
A late game-tying goal by Eline Oldeman wasn’t enough as the William and Mary Tribe edged the Hofstra field hockey team 3-2 in a shootout at Busch Field on Friday night, Oct. 1. It was the first day for Colonial Athletic Association play.
