A hopeless romantic, though cliché, is the best way I can describe myself. When it comes to love, I become a victim of mindless dreaming and wishful thinking. I seem to have mastered the art of functional relationships and yet, it seems I can't maintain one for myself.

 

There's a rumor on campus that students don't take as lightly as the others, for it is no joking matter. It's one that we wanted to take a closer look at nonetheless. Rumor has it that a male student jumped off one of the towers with the intention of taking his own life, and did not succeed. So, after his attempt, he tried again a second time, and his objective was met.

SS: I'm an English major and a French minor.

The Chronicle: How would you describe your style?

SS: My style is extremely eclectic. I go from sporty-casual to girly to bohemian, but whatever I wear always has some sort of edge.

 

This letter is in response to your article, "Hofstra's Pot Culture" in the October 7th issue of The Chronicle. There were several inaccurate statements made as to the approach and expectations of Resident Assistants confronting marijuana use in the residence halls.

After sitting down to write my editorial, I became distracted by the Internet—a true rarity. I intended to write about the hard-hitting news of the season change, but in the process stumbled upon an article that may excite a few more people. Recently released is a Duke University girl's divulgence of, what she called, "an education beyond the classroom: excelling in the realm of horizontal academics." Within the 42-slide PowerPoint presentation she recounts her experiences with 13 Duke athletes. Despite its claimed intent, her thesis is getting more review than she could have ever anticipated.

Is suicide a hate crime? That has been one of the many questions raised during the debate over Tyler Clementi's suicide. Should his roommate and girlfriend be charged with a hate crime? Broadcasting Clementi's sexual encounters online is completely reprehensible and a violation of Tyler's privacy. The two should be found guilty under New Jersey's invasion of privacy laws and expelled from Rutgers. But, they did not commit a hate crime.
