Before every game, Monica Knight, the senior captain of the volleyball team, closes her eyes and visualizes the game for five minutes. Then, she leads her team onto the court and works her hardest to make sure those visions come true.

There was no question as to whether Knight would play volleyball in college or not, "it was a childhood dream," she said. And one that came true.

DG:  I should start by saying that I saw this production in the summer of 2008, when it played the open-air Delacorte Theatre in Central Park. Many aspects (staging, casting) have improved considerably.

LD: Well, being that this was my first experience seeing a professional version of "Hair" I was extremely impressed. The amount of interactivity with the crowd really made the show for me, especially from Gavin Creel. He really took his role to an extreme, but it worked.

Over the weekend, the Hofstra Women's soccer team asserted themselves in the Colonial Athletic Association, winning both their games and maintaining a perfect 4-0 conference record.

Friday night in Fairfax, VA the Pride took the field against George Mason. The game represented a tremendous defensive effort for both squads, as there were only six total shots taken in the first half of regulation play.

Q. Why are New York sports fans like politicians and gymnasts?

A.  Flip-flopping is part of the job.

How about those long suffering New York Jets faithful? Last season, after Gang Green beat the Titans in week 12 to hand the Titans their first loss of the season, New Yorkers - - and Jets fans in particular - - were ready to push Mike Bloomberg out of office and replace him with Brett Favre. Disappointing losses to the Broncos, 49ers and Seahawks put the team out of the playoffs and Brett Favre on the fan's fecal roster. Where is the loyalty?

While I was in diapers and the other Bush was sending bombs over the barren, oil-scarred Iraq of 1991, Alice in Chains was rocketing to the top of the billboard charts. Now, after the death of lead singer Layne Staley in 2002, Alice In Chains, one of the big four Seattle bands, released a new album on September 29th. The band currently consists of guitarist/singer Jerry Cantrell, new singer William Duvall, bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney.

I'm not saying that creating a stage play from nonfiction is easy. In attempting to make political, hard-facts reporting into art, however, it seems that Joan Holden is more concerned with not losing anything in translation, rather than crafting something fit for the stage. Her lackluster adaptation of Barbara Ehrenreich's best-selling book "Nickel and Dimed," overshadowed the University's Department of Drama and Dance's daring attempt at performing this so-called "play."
