Preview: Hofstra continues road trip to Campbell

The Hofstra University men’s basketball team visits Campbell University on Saturday, Jan. 13. The game marks the Pride’s first against the Fighting Camels as a newly added member of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).

The Pride were defeated by the Northeastern University Huskies on Thursday, Jan. 11, dropping their CAA record to 1-2. Campbell is also 1-2 in conference play after losing their most recent game to the University of Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens. Campbell racked up their first-ever win as a member of the CAA on Saturday, Jan. 6, when they defeated Hampton University 80-69.

During Thursday’s game against the Huskies, the Pride scored only 23 points in the first half and found themselves down by 19 points before the second. Even with a second-half comeback, the Pride fell 71-68 to Northeastern.

Over their recent skid, Hofstra has been outscored on average 74-68. Additionally, the Pride was shooting just 43% from the field over that period. Against Northeastern, Darlinstone Dubar put up just 10 points, his second-lowest total of the campaign.

Unlike the Pride, Campbell has been enjoying relative success as of late. After collecting their first win as a member of the CAA, the Camels followed it up with a tight game against Delaware. Campbell has not looked out of place since moving up to the CAA, and a big reason for that is Anthony Dell’Orso. Dell’Orso leads the Camels in scoring, with 16.6 points per game, ranking No. 7 in the conference. The sophomore posted a career-high 35 points on Nov. 11, 2023, against East Carolina University. He also adds five defensive rebounds per game.

Both teams are looking to right the ship and bring their CAA record back to 2-2.

Tip-off from Buies Creek, North Carolina, is at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13.
