‘Emily in Paris’: So beautiful to look at, you can almost forgive its flaws

“Emily in Paris,” the new Netflix comedy from “90210” and “Sex and the City” creator Darren Star, follows the titular character as she makes an unexpected move to Paris for work. A soapy drama with beautiful aesthetics but incredibly low stakes, “Emily in Paris” offers audiences a much-needed sense of escapism through ten episodes of bingeable Parisian escapades.

‘All The Bright Places’ shines a light on mental illness like never before

Netflix’s new release, “All The Bright Places,” an adaption of Jennifer Niven’s novel, attempts to tackle the mental illness and teenage struggles addressed by the original novel with accuracy and depth. Violet Markey (Elle Fanning) and Theodore Finch (Justice Smith) meet on a ledge, both literally and figuratively. Both on the brink of desperation, they meet standing on a bridge. Violet lost her sister in a car accident months prior and doesn’t know how to move on, while Theodore, or “Finch,” has been struggling with the wretched deal that was dealt to him.

'BoJack Horseman' reaches emotional finale

It is impossible to express what “BoJack Horseman” can mean to people without discussing the kinds of people who find themselves drawn to this show. “BoJack” is a show that offers us a mirror to reflect our worst selves. It gives us the opportunity to confront some of humankind’s ugliest aspects and forces us to confront the fact that some things can never be forgiven. “BoJack” lets us see the worst of ourselves, either in the dysfunctional horse who can’t help but make things worse, the high-functioning cat who poured everything into a career that gives her nothing in return or the human woman who wrestles with a very real depiction of depression. The show that sold itself in the first season as a goofy little cartoon featuring a washed-up horse became a place for people to realize that they aren’t alone – that Hollywood stars and celebrities can be just like us, even when that’s a bad thing.
