Women's Soccer takes first tie against Herndon's Dukes

By Elliot Rubin - STAFF WRITER The Hofstra women’s soccer team followed up two consecutive conference wins against Charleston and Towson with a 1 -1 tie against James Madison.

The game remained scoreless until the 81st minute, at which time forward Ashley Herndon of James Madison scored on a free kick. Two minutes later, Hofstra forward Leah Galton tied up the score with a goal of her own, her 11th of the season.

Galton’s goal in the 83 minute capped off the scoring for the game. Galton’s goal was her team leading 11th of the season. Galton and Herndon entered the game as the conference’s top two scorers, and Herndon got to double digits with her 10th score.

Hofstra scored only one goal despite outshooting James Madison 19 – 8, although the Pride had only seven shots on goal. Part of this disparity comes from the saves statistics from the two teams, while the Pride had two saves, the Dukes had six, although Galton was the only Hofstra player with multiple shots on goals, with two.

Defender Madeline Anderson also had a shot on goal, as did midfielders Jill Mulholland and Jeannine Molleda. For JMU, Herndon had two shots on goal, one of which scored, and midfielder Allie Bunner had a shot attempt. While the Pride went a perfect 6/6 on corner kicks.

For the season, Hofstra has 30 assists and 19.7 shots per game, compared with 17 assists and 10.9 shots per game for the opposition.

The tie moved the Pride’s record to 10 – 4 – l overall, and 4 – 1 – 1 in the CAA. James Madison is 9 – 5 – 1 overall, and 3 – 1 – 1 in CAA play. Hofstra will play Northeastern University next in another CAA battle.
