New Laundry Technology brought to Dorms

By Cody Heintz, Assistant Business Manager

The days of walking down from the dorm room to the laundry room only to find out that all machines are taken are numbered. The University has recently released a new application through the portal that shows whether or not a washer or dryer is taken.  This new feature is located in the "my apps" folder under the name "Campus Laundry". This new app also tells how much time is left on any machine that is in use.  To make the process simpler, a resident can sign up for either an email alert or text message that the machine's cycle is done.

Many students around campus find this addition helpful for when they want to do their laundry.

"It's kind of cool to see if any laundry machines are open from your room before you go down there," said senior Solon Stephanou, who lives on the tenth floor of Estabrook Hall. This service also coincides with the reformatted laundry system, which has all students pay a flat $40 fee, rather than a per-use Dutch debit fee.

Associate Dean of Students Lynda O'Malley said that the new service was fully made available to the public last week after some initial delays. She also said that idea for the service came from the provider of the University's laundry equipment, Hercules, because they told the school about the features that were in their machines. "The school is always looking to provide new services to students and this was one of them," said O'Malley.
