Math professor Vassalotti dies at 80

Alfred Gaetano Vassalotti, a fulltime faculty member of the University's Mathematics Department from 1961-1997, has died at the age of 80.

Vassalotti, the son of immigrant parents from Riccia, Italy, earned a Masters in Mathematics from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute after graduating as valedictorian in 1951 from Queens College. After 1997, he remained at the University as Associate Professor Emeritus.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carmela, his children, Joseph, Thomas and Andrea, his daughter-in-law Lisa and grandchildren Alex and Emily. His funeral took place on Saturday, October 24 at Our Lady of the Snows Roman Catholic Church and he is interred at St. John's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, it is asked that you please make a donation to the University or Oznam Hall of Queens Nursing Home in Vassalotti's honor.
