Wrestling faces Rutgers and Wisconsin in Garden State Grapple event

On Saturday, Nov. 27, the Hofstra wrestling team traveled to Newark, N.J., to participate in the inaugural “Garden State Grapple” wrestling event at the Prudential Center, along with No. 14 University of North Carolina, No. 15 Rutgers University and No. 19 University of Wisconsin. Each team participated in two matches on side-by-side mats. Hofstra took on Rutgers in their first match and Wisconsin in their second. Despite being defeated in both matches against far superior competition, the Pride did manage to find some positives against very strong opponents.

Pride finishes 10th at EIWA Championships

The Hofstra wrestling team finished 10th at the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championships at Lehigh University on Friday, March 6 and Saurday, March 7, with one wrestler qualifying for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament. Ricky Stamm, who finished fifth at 165 pounds, would have made his first appearance at the national tournament this year.

Wrestling completes EIWA play undefeated after Sacred Heart win

The Hofstra wrestling team completed its historic 2019-20 season on Feb. 22 with a 38-3 victory over Sacred Heart University at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. The Pride finishes the season 11-5, its most wins since the 2011-12 season, including 7-0 in conference, their most conference wins since joining the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) and their first undefeated conference record since going 7-0 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play back in the 2006-07 season.

Wrestling earns sweet Ivy League sweep over Harvard and Brown

The Hofstra wrestling team swept back-to-back dual meets Feb. 16, defeating Harvard University 20-17 and Brown University 29-6 at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. The Pride moved to 6-0 in Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) play, setting a new program record for conference wins in a season since joining in 2013. Head coach Dennis Papadatos tied his career-high for dual meet wins in a season, grabbing win number 10 against Brown.

Wrestling closes out home stand with four consecutive wins

Hempstead, NY — The Hofstra wrestling team went 2-0 in two matches on Saturday, Feb. 1 during the Hofstra Tri at the David S. Mack Physical Education Building. Sage Heller finished with two falls and was one of five Pride wrestlers to win both of his matches on the day. Hofstra trounced the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats 45-3 in their first dual meet before coming back to take down the Columbia University Lions 24-14.

Hofstra wrestling splits weekend contest at home

On a cold Sunday afternoon where the  Hofstra wrestling alumni were honored, the Hofstra wrestling team split a doubleheader against Northern Colorado University and Virginia Military Institute at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. They beat VMI 28-15 but fell to Northern Colorado 21-13. Before the match against Northern Colorado, the banner honoring alumni Nick Gallo, Hofstra’s only nation champion, was unveiled.

Dylan Ryder has strong showing at Vegas Invitational

Ten Hofstra University wrestlers competed in the Cliff-Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational starting on Friday, Nov. 30. The tournament featured top teams from around the country including No. 2 Ohio State University. Hofstra’s Dylan Ryder (125) was the only wrestler from Hofstra to advance to the second day of the tournament.
