The Hofstra University women’s basketball team begins their final road trip of the regular season, hoping to snap a four-game losing streak and defeat Elon University on Thursday, March 7.

The Pride enters their matchup third-to-last in their conference, with a 3-13 record against Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) opponents as part of their 9-18 overall record. The Elon University Phoenix sit two spots up from Hofstra in CAA standings, having improved to a 10-18 overall record with a 6-10 record against conference opponents.

Hofstra and Elon last met on Jan. 21 when the Pride hosted the Phoenix and narrowly lost 55-54. Despite an effort by the Pride to make a comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring Elon 17-4, Iycez Adams of the Phoenix made a foul shot with one second on the clock to cost Hofstra the game. During that game, Emma Von Essen led all scorers with 23 points while Selma Markisic followed suit with 13 points. Zyheima Swint led the team with 10 rebounds and Ally Knights followed with five.

Hofstra dropped their most recent game to Monmouth University 66-50 on Sunday, March 3. No players were able to reach double-digit scoring or rebounding. Brooke Anya led the Pride with seven points and nine rebounds while Von Essen, Swint and Sorelle Ineza scored six points each.

Elon snapped a three-game losing streak on the road, besting the University of Delaware 54-49. Vanessa Taylor led the Phoenix with 12 points while Ajia James scored 11 points. James also led the Phoenix with seven rebounds while Adams, who leads the Phoenix with 7.4 rebounds per game, made six rebounds. Maraja Pass, the only member of the Phoenix with a total assist count in the triple digits with 101 rebounds, gave Elon three assists against Delaware.

Thursday’s game will be the 20th all-time meeting of the Pride and the Phoenix. Hofstra has a 4-15 record against Elon and a 1-6 record on the road against the Phoenix.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Schar Center in Burlington, North Carolina, FloHoops will air the game while WRHU 88.7 FM will air an audio-only broadcast.
