Field Hockey bringing on new Head Coach

Hofstra University Athletics announced the hiring of Hillary Fitts as the new head coach for the Hofstra field hockey team.

“We are thrilled to add Hillary to our staff and think she will be a great addition to our University community,” said Vice President and Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. in the press release made on Friday, March 15. “Coach Fitts' championship-level experience will be a huge asset for our field hockey student-athletes and program as we continue to elevate the Hofstra field hockey team. [Fitts] has been successful at every level of her career, both academically and athletically, and we are confident that she will be an incredible mentor for the Pride field hockey team in the years to come”

"I'd like to thank Vice President and Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. for trusting me with the opportunity to lead the Hofstra field hockey program into the future," Fitts said. "Hofstra is an outstanding university with worldwide impact, and I'm excited to work with the field hockey student-athletes, alumnae and staff to do our part in helping to grow that impact.”

Fitts will replace Courtney Veinotte, who served as the head coach of the Pride for the last five seasons. According to Hofstra University Athletics’ press release regarding Fitts’ hiring, Veinotte resigned in December to pursue other professional opportunities.

Fitts played college field hockey at Fairfield University from 2010 to 2013. She joins Hofstra after spending the last five years with the College of William & Mary, joining as an assistant coach in July 2019 and receiving a promotion for the position of associate head coach in 2022. She saw gradual growth in the team during her time with the Tribe, culminating in a conference championship and NCAA appearance in 2023.

“I would not be where I am today without the past five years at William & Mary, and I want to thank Tess Ellis, the student-athletes and my fellow coaches and staff for some of the best years of my career so far,” Fitts said.

Fitts will serve as the 13th head coach in program history.
