Preview: WBB moves on from CofC to Campbell

The Hofstra University women’s basketball team looks to rebound after losing on Friday, Feb. 23,  against a strong College of Charleston squad. Now, the Pride travels south to North Carolina to take on the Campbell University Fighting Camels on Sunday, Feb. 25.

Hofstra stands 9-15 overall on the year and owns a 3-10 record in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play. The Fighting Camels are 6-7 in CAA games with a 13-11 overall ledger.

Despite losing 88-59 to Charleston, Sorelle Ineza put up 15 points and had three triples. That was the sixth contest in a row she had a double-digit point total in a game, the second-most points during that streak.

Emma Von Essen also hit three 3-pointers in her 11-point performance. The sophomore  guard now has 18 double-digit game tallies.

Campbell is coming off a 57-46 victory over the College of William & Mary on Feb. 23, in which Svenia Nürenberg had 17 points and was two rebounds away from a double-double in the game. Audrey Fuller contributed eight points and six rebounds off the bench in the win.

Christabel Ezumah leads the Fighting Camels with 12.2 points per game, and she also leads her side in rebounds-per-game. Gemma Núñez’s 80 assists make her the team’s top chance creator.

This is a matchup with two of the top three rebounders in the conference. Hofstra’s Zyheima Swint averages eight per game, putting her second in the CAA, while Campbell’s Ezumah is in third, averaging 7.9.

Expect Hofstra’s hosts to make scoring difficult; the Camels have given up fewer points than any other team in the conference, giving up only an average of 54.1 points per game.

The Pride won the only meeting these two had in the past, which came before Campbell joined the CAA in 2022. That contest ended in a 58-55 home win for the Pride on Dec. 21, 2019.
