Preview: Women's basketball to face Northeastern

The Hofstra University women’s basketball team will search for a win against the Northeastern University Huskies in a home game on Sunday, Feb. 18.

Both the Pride and the Huskies enter Sunday’s matchup with an 8-14 overall record. However,  Northeastern holds a 4-8 record against Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) opponents while Hofstra has a 2-9 record.

The series between Hofstra and Northeastern is evenly distributed. The Pride have a slight edge over the Huskies with a 22-21 record. However, their most recent meeting, when the Pride traveled to Boston on Jan. 14, resulted in a 66-53 Huskies win.

Emma Von Essen led the Pride in scoring with 10 points while Brooke Anya led Hofstra with five rebounds. Derin Erdogan, who leads the Huskies in scoring with 14.7 points per game, put up 18 points against the Pride and was one of four Huskies to score in double-digits. Following Erdogan were Deja Bristol with 15 points and 12 rebounds, Maddie Vizza with 12 points and Yirsy Quéliz with 11 points.

Hofstra comes into Sunday’s game following an 81-48 loss to Stony Brook University on Friday, Feb. 16. Zyheima Swint led the Pride in scoring with 11 points and Sorelle Ineza trailed with 10 points, while Brooke Anya led the Pride’s defense with six rebounds.

Northeastern is currently riding a four-game losing streak, dropping their most recent game on Friday, Feb. 16, to Elon University in a 53-37 loss. Bristol led the Huskies with 11 points and 11 rebounds and was the only player on the team with double-digit scoring and rebounding with her fourth double-double of the season.

 MSG will air the game, which is set for a 2 p.m. tipoff at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
