Jacco Fritz announces commitment to Hofstra basketball

The Hofstra Pride men’s basketball team continues to bolster their roster through the transfer portal, as former Canisius College forward Jacco Fritz announced his commitment to the Pride on Sunday, April 30, via his personal Instagram and Twitter pages. Fritz averaged eight points, six rebounds and three assists per game in his senior season with the Golden Griffins and will use his additional year of eligibility granted by the pandemic to play at Hofstra. Hailing from Tiel, Netherlands, Fritz is the second international recruit to sign with Hofstra this offseason, after the Pride acquired Irish center Silas Sunday last week.

Fritz also becomes the third forward to transfer to the Pride this offseason, as Hofstra attempts to fill the holes left by the graduation of seniors Warren Williams and Nelson Boachie-Yiadom. Standing at 6’10” and 215 pounds, Fritz will slot into a much-needed role at center for the Pride while also seeing some time at power forward. Fritz will look to add a new dimension to the Hofstra offense next season, after establishing himself as one of the nation’s best passing big men at Canisius with three assists per game and a turnover rate of 18.2%.

Fritz also adds some much-needed scoring depth to the Hofstra rotation as he ranked among the best pure shooters in the nation last season. Out of 5,445 D1 players, Fritz ranks top 120 nationally in effective field goal percentage at 58.6%, true shooting percentage at 61.5% and offensive rating at 118.5.

Hofstra still has at least two roster spots left to fill before the 2023-24 season begins with over 1,000 players still available in the transfer portal.
