According to his website, Andrew Word is a “singer-songwriter who makes acoustic-driven music about redemption and relationship[s].” His faith lies at the core of his being and his craft, and he describes his music as “layered, organic songs.” Word recently took the time to share his thoughts about his music and his outlook on life.

Musicians are often inspired by other musicians to reach for the stars, and it was no different for Word. This kind of influence and Word’s personal musical experiences in his early life were key to inspiring him to become a singer-songwriter.

“I've loved all kinds of music from an early age and started learning guitar as a teenager,” Word said. “Several years later I began discovering artists like John Mark McMillan and Brooke Fraser. Music like that speaks about faith in a very artistic way, and it deeply resonates with me. That's when I really got inspired to write my own songs.”

In April 2020, Word released an EP titled “Walk These Hills,” which focuses on his family.

“‘Walk These Hills’ is a collection of songs I had written over the last few years for my wife and my daughters. My desire was to explore the ways we express compassion and love in our closest relationships,” he said.

In 2018, Word wrote “Unfailing,” which explores God’s faithfulness in every situation. It’s featured in his album “Full of Light” and is just one of his many profound songs about the different dimensions of God’s identity.

“My dad passed away a few years ago, and I was reflecting on God's goodness in spite of the losses we experience,” Word said. “I was overwhelmed by God’s kindness and faithfulness through that season.”

A lot of Word’s songs and lyric videos, such as “Fields,” allude to natural elements to convey his message, laying bare the importance of nature in his music.

“I love being outdoors in general, and I think that the beauty and peace of experiencing nature has a special way of expressing spiritual themes in music and other art forms,” Word said.

Word also offered some advice to aspiring songwriters and musicians.

“Everyone starts at zero, so don't despise small beginnings. There's a craft to each art form, and it's going to take some time to grow as an artist. Identify your strengths and lean into them. Every artist fails more than they succeed, so don't give up,” Word said.

Having launched his latest EP, “Walk These Hills,” this year, Word is making steady progress in spreading messages of hope. As this pivotal year winds down for this gifted musician, his fans eagerly await his next musical offering.
