Hofstra runs win streak to six games after trouncing Towson

By Felipe Fontes -- STAFF WRITER A recent game adds to the list of wins for the Hofstra women’s soccer team, taking down the Towson Tigers 3-0 on enemy turf Thursday night in Maryland.

The victory advances the Pride’s win streak to six matches as they continue their reign as the only unbeaten team in CAA play.

A staggering 3-0 victory did not seem to be in the cards after a 44-minute drought of goalless action.

Despite the lack of production in the first half of play, with 14 total shots blasted toward the goal, it was only a matter of time for the Pride’s chances to finally start cashing in.

When Maya Watkins’ shot finally touched the back of the net in the closing seconds of the first half, the flood gates seemed to swing open.

No adjustments made by Towson could stop the onslaught of aggression that the Pride brought forward.

Shooting a total of 13 shots in the second half, Hofstra was able to notch in two more goals to stretch their lead to three.

The second goal was scored in the 66th minute off the foot of Kristin Desmond, who sent a high shot to the near post just above the reach of Towson goal keeper Taylor Sebolao.

The tally extended her goal-scoring streak to four consecutive games, bringing her to a total of nine to lead the conference.

Hofstra’s game-clinching third goal marked the first for freshman Bella Richards, who took an assist from Ashley Batista, followed by a slight dribble and a shot to the back of the net in the 83rd minute.

In total, the Pride outshot Towson 27-7, while also leading in corner kicks 11-0 to keep control of yet another game in strong fashion.

Hofstra has now allowed only two goals in their past eight matches as they continue to compliment the potent offense with a firm, cohesive unit on the back end of the pitch.

Now with a 5-0-0 CAA record, and on the back stretch of conference play, the Pride will try and continue their run and head into the conference tournament with a clean sheet on the loss column.

The first team in their way is James Madison University, coming to Hempstead after a recent loss to the College of Charleston by score of 1-0.

The match will take place at Hofstra Soccer Stadium Oct. 8 at 1 p.m.
