By Nico Bermudez -- STAFF WRITER The Hofstra Pride field hockey team failed to put together a strong performance against Northeastern losing by a score of 8-1. This loss drops their overall record to 6-8 and their conference record to 1-2.
Anne van den Boomen scored the lone goal for the Pride, marking just her second goal of the season, but her second tally in the previous two games. She was assisted by Frankie O’Brien; this accounted for her fourth assist on the year.
The usual starting goalie Carys Swan started the game for the Pride. After allowing two goals in the first half, she was pulled after 17:31 of play. Backup goalie Cecilia DeSimone substituted her for the remainder of the half and gave up three goals.
So after one half of play, Hofstra was already down 5-0. They were overwhelmingly outshot 11-3 in that half and Northeastern had more corners with six compared to zero.
Swan came out again to start the second half in net. Just barely over a minute into the second half, Swan gave up her third goal of the game. Eventually, a bit past the 52-minute mark, DeSimone substituted in for Swan for a second time, giving up two goals to close out the game and allowing five in total.
The Pride played significantly more aggressive in the second half as they saw increases in both shots and corners from the first half. They were still outshot 10-7 but had more corners, advantaging them 5-3.
The team makes their way back home for their next two matches. Up first is Monmouth University on Sunday, October 8 at 1:00 p.m. Monmouth is currently ranked 25th in the nation. This will be the first meeting between the two programs in five years.
