Public Safety Briefs - 10/11

On Oct. 1, at 2:15 a.m., PS responded to an activated fire alarm in Enterprise Hall. A search of the building was conducted and it was discovered that the use of a vaporizer in a room had caused the fire alarm to activate. The vaporizer was confiscated and the resident was issued a referral to the Office of Community Standards.

On Oct. 1, at 8:20 p.m., PS received a report that there was a male wearing a clown mask in the Netherlands North courtyard. PS responded and identified the male as a Hofstra student. When interviewed he said he was playing a joke on his fellow students. There was no action taken in this matter.

On Oct. 2, at 2:25 a.m., PS observed three males sitting in a vehicle smoking marijuana. They were identified as Hofstra students and all three were issued referrals to the Office of Community Standards.

On Oct. 2, at 1:30 a.m., A fire alarm was activated in Enterprise Hall. During a search of the building PS entered a room and found it filled with vape smoke. Upon further investigation, a vaporizer was found as well as seven beers and a bottle of rum. The items were confiscated and the resident was issued a notification to appear summons.

On Oct. 3, at 2:20 a.m., There was an activated fire alarm in Enterprise Hall. During a search of the building it was discovered that three Hofstra students failed to evacuate. All three students were issued referrals to the Office of Community Standards for failure to comply.

On Oct. 3, A plant department mechanic called PS and stated that there was a white van with its door open on the loading dock of the student center. PS responded and when they arrived they observed a strong odor of marijuana, a glass jar and a marijuana grinder on the floor. There was also a black computer bag that contained an Apple laptop. The Hofstra student was notified and came to PS to retrieve their property and was issued a referral to the Office of Community Standards for a drug abuse volition and violation of Hofstra policies.

On Oct. 7, PS received a report that there was an odor of marijuana inside a room at Newport House in Colonial Square. PS and an RA entered the room, where they found six students. They were all issued referrals to the Office of Community Standards for smoking marijuana, but there was no marijuana recovered from the room.

On Oct. 7, at 1:30 a.m., A Hofstra bus driver radioed the PS control desk informing them a group of students were removing signs for fall festival. PS responded and apprehended the eight students who had removed signs. The signs were recovered and the students were issued a referral to the Office of Community Standards.
