By PJ Potter - STAFF WRITER Brad Witkowski and Jake Fallon combined for six hits to win their 3rd consecutive game and clinch the CAA series against Elon, 10-6.
Both players went 3-for-4 with three runs and a run batted in. Witkowski launched his first career home run in the 7th to answer Chris King’s blast in the top half of the inning. Fallon put Hofstra’s first run on the board in the 3rd on a bases loaded single through the left side of the infield.
Other offensive threats for the Pride were seniors Brian MacDonald, Dalton Rouleau, and Eric Ferguson. MacDonald recorded just one hit, but managed to drive in four runs. He hit a 2-run single up the middle in the 7th to extend Hofstra’s lead to four.
Rouleau slapped two doubles, with one of them sending two runners in to score. He now has ten doubles, which is tied for most on the team. Eric Ferguson went 2-for-4 with a stolen base. He blasted his 3rd home run, which came in the 8th inning down the left field line.
Chris Hardardt and Mat Annunziata each went 1-for-4 with a run.
Elon’s offense amounted seven extra bases in the game, two of them off the bat of Chris King. King muscled his 14th homer this season on a 400+ foot shot over the 30-foot fence in center field and bounced off of the Hofstra Fitness Center brick. He also drove in Elon’s first run of the game on a double in the 4th.
Kory Shumate, Quinn Bower, and Ryan Cooper all hit a 2-bagger for the Phoenix. Cooper went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.
In the 9th, Casey Jones hit a solo shot to center field, his 3rd of the year.
Alec Eisenberg started for the Pride and earned his 4th win in five complete innings. He struck out four and allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks.
In relief, Kevin Weissheier recorded one out, which was a strikeout to James Venuto. Chris Weiss got the save, his 4th this year. He tossed 3.2 innings and fanned five Phoenix batters. Weiss surrendered one run on two hits and two walks.
Matt Harris lost his 3rd game in six innings of work. He gave up ten hits to the Pride and plated eight runs (six earned). Chris Hall and Mike Krill finished it out for Elon and allowed one run each.
