Public Safety Briefs 11-10

Compiled by Gabriella Ciuffetelli. On Oct. 30, PS received a report that two male students were engaged in a physical altercation near the Netherlands North security booth. Both males appeared intoxicated and refused to file complaints against each other. PS responded and both were treated at the scene for abrasions and bite marks and received summonses for fighting.

On Oct. 30, PS responded to a dispute between a group of males in the Netherlands North parking lot. The situation was calm by the time PS arrived on the scene but one individual, who was identified as a nonstudent, continued to act disorderly. The nonstudent was banned from campus.

On Oct. 31, PS responded to a report of the smell of marijuana coming from a room in Stuyvesant Hall. PS entered the room and found a wood pipe with marijuana residue and half a gallon of vodka. There were seven students and one nonstudent present. PS confiscated the pipe and alcohol and the students received summonses and the nonstudent was banned from campus.

PS received a harassment report on Nov. 1 from a female student after her ex-boyfriend, who harassed her in their home state of Connecticut, tried to add her as a friend her on Facebook. She was unable to provide PS with his address so they could send him a ban letter.

On Nov. 1, a PS officer on patrol saw two male students smoking marijuana near the Netherlands. A marijuana cigarette and a grinder were confiscated and both males received summonses.

On Nov. 2, a Hofstra student reported that on Oct. 23, another student made her feel uncomfortable while she was performing during a stand-up comedy show at Hofstra USA. The student then continued to contact her on the phone. PS issued an summons to the student who was also given a no-contact order.

A resident assistant in Stuyvesant Hall reported on Nov. 3 that he found two glass water pipes during a health and safety inspection in one of the rooms. PS confiscated the pipes and the resident of the room was issued a summons.

On Nov. 3, a student reported that he lost his wallet on Oct. 26, and someone made five purchases using his credit card, all at off-campus locations. The student was told to report this to the police department and to cancel all of his credit cards. An investigation is being conducted.

A custodian reported to PS on Nov. 3 that he observed two females soliciting students in the student center by attempting to sell them cosmetics. PS identified the females as two nonstudents and banned them from campus.

On Nov. 4, PS received a report that there was a man trespassing on the second floor of the physical education building. PS identified the male as a nonstudent and he was banned from the campus.

On Nov. 4, a Hofstra audio/visual staff member reported that he placed a Hofstra laptop in a locker at Hofstra USA on Nov. 3, and it was missing when he returned the next day. An investigation is being conducted.

On Nov. 4, a student reported that he secured his bike to a bike rack in front of the Netherlands the day before and discovered that everything except the front wheel of the bike was missing. Police assistance was declined.

A female student reported on Nov. 4 that her roommates have been verbally abusive toward her for the last two weeks. The student reported that she attempted to use mediation to solve the situation but the matter had not been resolved. The two roommates were issued summonses.
