By PJ Potter - Staff Writer Brian MacDonald was given the nod for the Pride in hopes of winning his second consecutive start on the mound against the Fairfield Stags.
Hofstra continued their struggles at the plate and their pitching was not able to hold up as they fell to the Stags, 6-0. MacDonald faced off against Kyle Dube in yet another pitcher’s duel for the Pride.
Hofstra’s defense kept the game scoreless by executing four double plays in the first four innings. But the Stags managed to score four runs in the top of the 6th, starting with MacDonald walking Brendan Tracy with the bases loaded. A few batters later, Dan Hopkins roped a double into the right center field gap, scoring three more Stags.
Kevin Weissheier came on in relief to face his former team. Pinch hitter Billy Zolga swung on Weissheier’s first offering and delivered a 2-run home run to put the Stags up 6-0 over the Pride.
Both teams finished the game with five hits each, but three of Fairfield’s hit were for extra bases. Pride pitching also let up eight walks in comparison to their offense only drawing one. Foster, Rouleau, MacDonald, Donovan, and Weiss all finished the game with a base hit for Hofstra.
Of the past four games, Hofstra has only crossed five runners at home plate. This was the first time this season they were shutout, falling to 9-13.
