By PJ Potter - STAFF WRITER The Hofstra men’s soccer team extended their conference win streak to two in a 5-1 victory over Drexel University, their first win at Vidas Field since 2011.
The Dragons struck first with a goal coming in the 33rd minute by Erik Alexandersson, his first score of the season. Ilai Shvika was credited with the assist on a pass from 30 yards out.
While Drexel was shut out for the remainder of the match, the Pride, ranked 23rd in the NSCAA poll, posted five unanswered goals, with four finding the back of the net in the second half.
Andreas Iosifides made his first appearance in a Hofstra uniform and quickly got involved in the action by assisting on a Meshack Eshun Addy goal, tying the score up at one in the 45th minute. The junior transfer totaled two shots for the match, both on target.
Freshman Daniel Massey collected his first collegiate score in the 57th minute, which would be the game-winning goal on a breakaway off of a bad pass.
Massey continued to be a threat on the pitch. Just four minutes later, he tallied his first career assist on a long pass to Meshack Eshun Addy to put the Pride up 3-1. Eshun Addy’s goal total is now up to six for the year.
With 24:46 left, Rory Murphy launched the ball 35 yards to Sean Nealis, a freshman from Massapequa, to give him his first goal in the NCAA. Murphy’s assist is his third of 2015.
Joseph Holland rounded out the scoring for Hofstra in the 76th minute to make it a 5-1 final. Holland dribbled from right to left and zipped the ball past Drexel’s goalkeeper. The London native trails Eshun Addy for the team lead in scores by one.
The Pride dominated the Dragons in shots, firing 26 with 18 on goal. Drexel finished with 13 shots overall and four on mark.
Pride goalie Patric Pray made three saves to increase his season total to 38. Drexel shot stopper Jacob Jordan gathered 13 saves, a career high, despite letting five balls go by him.
Hofstra’s record is now 7-2-0 (2-0-0) this year. They continue their road trip on Saturday, as they take on William and Mary in a CAA battle beginning at 7 p.m.
