By PJ Potter - STAFF WRITER Hofstra’s pitching surrendered a season-high 23 runs in their final game of 2015, the 3rd time this year they allowed 20+ runs in one game.
James Madison exploded for 14 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Mike Sciorra got the inning started with a bases loaded walk. An error by by Brad Witkowski cost the Pride two runs to make the score 7-1.
Chad Carroll and Brett Johnson each poked an RBI base hit. Carroll scored three times on three hits and drove home two runs.
Kyle Weston, who finished just a single shy of hitting for the cycle, smashed a 2-run triple to increase their lead to nine. He also hit a 3-run home run in the 1st, finishing with six runs batted in.
Bobby San Martin and Ky Parrott combined for two home runs and seven RBI in just the 3rd inning. San Martin launched a 3-run blast and Parrott a grand slam to left field. Parrott finished with two hits and four runs batted in.
The unusual part about the 3rd inning is that 13 of the 14 runs scored were ruled unearned due to the error that kept the inning alive for the Dukes. The only earned run credited to the pitcher was the bases loaded walk to Sciorra.
Hofstra’s offense came to swing once again with 11 hits, totaling 32 for the series. Brian MacDonald ended his college career with three hits, and one of them going for a double. He increased his season average to .282.
Steven Foster went 2-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base, and an RBI. Foster’s final stats for the season: .351 batting average, .452 on-base percentage, 19 stolen bases, 52 hits, and 1.000 fielding percentage.
Dalton Rouleau rounded out his last year with a .278 batting average and 49 hits. He batted 2-for-6 and drove in two.
Adam Heidenfelder started for Hofstra and got the loss, finishing 0-5 for his freshman season. He gave up four runs in 1.2 innings.
Chris Weiss lasted one inning after allowing nine runs, but just one being earned. He walked four and scattered four hits.
Luke Noone did not record an out, nor an earned run despite surrendering five runs.
Patrick Bryant, Adam Seibert, and senior Nick Kozlowski threw the last 5.1 innings of the game. Bryant relieved Noone and gave up three runs to increase his ERA to 9.14.
Seibert allowed two runs in two innings and struck out three. Kozlowski, in his concluding appearance for Hofstra, struck out two batters in the 9th and did not plate a runner.
Brandon Withers improved to 2-0 after tossing three innings and giving up four runs on two hits and seven walks. Tucker McCoy recorded his 1st save of the season in four innings of relief. He allowed two runs and fanned two.
Hofstra finished 2015 with a 19-29 record (6-18 in CAA), the 1st time since 2011 they failed to win at least 20 games.
