Hot @ Hofstra: Doc Martens are back

By Grace Gavilanes, Staff Writer

Having been so widely coveted, Dr. Martens—affectionately referred to as "Doc Martens"—have served as a necessary staple for teenage girls during the grunge movement in the 1990's. These highly praised boots, which were originally designed for postmen, is quickly becoming a hot trend once again among fashionistas and trend-setters.

Despite its various color schemes, most girls seem to prefer classic black Doc Martens, rather than the more lively colors offered, intricately ranging from a subtle-toned flower pattern for the sweet coquette, to a neon green color for the quirky and spunky girl.

Doc Martens also prove to transcend from the grungy feel it undeniably emits.

"If I want to play up my fashionista side, I would wear my boots with gray stockings, a form-fitting mini-skirt, and a white blouse layered with a blazer," says sophomore biology major, Chelsea Emrit.

It has become quite common to spot, this thought-to-be-forgotten staple piece around Hofstra's campus. Staying true to its original objective, these boots will never fail in downplaying an elaborate outfit, which becomes essential among college girls.

"I absolutely love the fact that these boots can turn any feminine-looking outfit into something darker or grungier. And the great thing about these boots too, is that they are versatile. If I want to look edgy one day, I can just pair it with my black jeans and my leather jacket," says Emrit.

Therefore, planning on how to effectively utilize this versatile and practical staple becomes a matter of vision, considering the individual's style, comfort level, and personal preference.
