The thousands of students who did not receive a debate ticket had a chance this week to get a first-hand glimpse at the decor of the Mack Arena for debate night Oct. 15. C-SPAN's "American Presidents-Life Portraits" exhibit, which was at the entrance of the Arena that night, was located for this week at the rear entrance of CV Starr Hall.

Young people can claim much of the credit for electing Barack Obama as the first African-American president of the United States. Notoriously the most unreliable of voters, 18 to 29 year olds turned out in record numbers on Election Night. Exit polls said young voters comprised 18 percent of the electorate this cycle this time, one point more than they did either time George W.

Cheers and chants of "Yes we can!" erupted in the main dining room of the Student Center Tuesday night as Barack Obama was declared the winner of the 2008 presidential election, while others went home disappointed with the result. "It feels good to be on the winning side for once," said senior Bradley Schloss.

So this week features some good ones, but first let's recap last Saturday. The top-ranked Texas Longhorns fell to Texas Tech in one of the greatest college football games of all time. Instant classic, anyone? Graham Harrell was 36-for-53, with 474 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning 28-yard strike to Michael Crabtree in the final second.

UNIONDALE, N.Y. - No team in the NHL has compiled fewer points than the Islanders paltry total of seven entering Tuesday's game against the Rangers. That's the bad news, even if the 3-7-1 start is consistent with many preseason predictions. But while the Islanders will likely endure a season-long struggle to escape the cellar, there are a few positives to take out of a typically gut-wrenching week for the team's players and fans.

There are always a couple positives in every bad situation. Take last weeks football game against New Hampshire for instance. Sophomore receiver Aaron Weaver broke the schools kickoff return yards record, junior Luke Bonus and Freshman Chris Edmond recorded six tackles each, junior cornerback Leslie Jackman had an interception, sophomore running back Everette Benjamin led the ground attack with 73 yards and a touchdown while adding a receiving touchdown to his totals.
