SGA argues bus fare

By Samuel Rubenfeld

The Student Government Association spent its latest senate meeting reeling over the mathematics of four versus eight.

Proposed legislation hit the floor Tuesday that would have allowed for the SGA to fund as many as eight members of a sports club to compete; the current limit is four. But the argument was not just about the numbers.

"We were debating because we were all confused about the legislation," said Brian Marquis, a sophomore who is fundraising chair. "They wanted to fund eight people at 50 percent. Four people at 100 percent is the same thing."

The funding for SGA club sports usually includes registration fees and travel reimbursements such as lodging, Marquis said. The SGA tabled the legislation and the sponsors, Lydia Pleiman, a senior who is Spirit Chair, and Samantha Erickson, a freshman, will sit with the Appropriations Committee to write more explicit legislation.

"We all knew what they wanted to do, but what they wrote was not what they wanted," Marquis said.
