Hi.

Welcome to the official, independent student-run newspaper of Hofstra University!

Student Opinion: Did the Commission on Presidential Debates make the right choice?

Cheryl Curry, junior, English major, N.J.
"I am honestly flabbergasted that the Commission chose our campus. This is not to say I believe we are undeserving, but rather because the logistics seem dubious. I suppose this means the renovations to the campus and its reputation have worked. Now I hope to see the neglected things, like a sense of safety and respect for student's opinions, fixed as well. I just wish it could have happened before we were nationally recognized."

Elijah Boyle, senior, drama major, Staten Island, N.Y.

"Well just think. For that one day, there will be plenty of security on campus. I agree they should worry about what the students have to say before they put the institution in front of the nation. Before they go showing the school off to the nation. I would like to see them fix the problems and make the school better first."

Rich Forestano, junior, print journalism major
"There hasn't been a presidential debate in New York in 47 years. This has put us in the national spotlight. I really want to go to this if possible."

Ryan Buchanan, freshman, communications major, N.Y.

"It's fine to be happy right now, as long as you acknowledge the possible consequences it might have. What if no students show up? That wouldn't show well how much Hofstra cares about the politics of our country."

Kristen Grasso, senior, theater arts major, N.Y.

"I hope one of the presidential candidates steps in one of the huge lakes...I mean "puddles" we have here on campus. Maybe then they'll be fixed."
