Letter to the Editor: Re: SGA budget transparency

By Jimmy Wells, President of the Student Government Association

A letter to the editor stressed budget transparency in the Student Government Association.  I could not agree more with that student-  he/she is not the only one that wants to know what Student Government spends its money on. Each year Student Government is allocated a budget so that it can sustain itself.  The exact amount of each line is not yet determined at this time, but I have already been working to appropriate money within our budget since I was sworn in April 27, 2010.  This budget will not be finalized or available until sometime in August.  I can tell you that every single dollar has a purpose and that I will be working to make Student Government operate as economically as possible.  When this finalized budget is ready in August, I will gladly release the budget for all students to see.  Luke and I campaigned for budget transparency and I only see it fitting that this starts with Student Government.  I can only hope that the University is willing to be as open as Luke and I to their students.
