A packed Mack Sports Complex of 4,258 fans saw the Hofstra men's basketball team defeat Iona College 83-75 for the Pride's third straight victory. After a shaky first two months of the season, including a four game losing streak, Hofstra improves to 6-7 on the season.

The Hofstra University men's basketball team made it two straight wins with a decisive 82-59 victory over Colgate before entering its final out of conference match-up against Iona next week.

There was something ominous in the eyes of senior guard Mike Moore on Saturday night.

"We have to learn how to win."

That was the message given by Hofstra men's basketball head coach Mo Cassara after the Pride's 68-59 loss to Manhattan University Saturday night at the Mack Sports Complex. The loss was Hofstra's fourth in a row, dropping its record to 3-7 on the year.

It was the smallest player on the floor providing the biggest punch. James Madison's 5'9" senior guard Humpty Hitchens provided the proverbial dagger through Hofstra hearts when he hit a jumper from 15 feet out to give JMU the lead with two seconds left to play.

On the basketball court, he treats the hardwood as his club, his canvas, with an effortless swagger, making the most difficult of shots and crossovers look simple with the utmost creativity. It must be in Shemiye McLendon's blood.

The last time the Hofstra men's basketball team hosted James Madison, Charles Jenkins scored 35 points in a Hofstra comeback win that included game tying free throws from now sophomore guard Shemiye McLendon with 17 seconds remaining in regulation forcing overtime. A Hofstra surge led by Jenkins, McLendon and sophomore forward Stephen Nwaukoni gave Hofstra the 92-89 win and Hofstra a 14-6 record with an 8-1 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) record.

Forty minutes of work came down to the final 2.6 seconds.
