Meet women's basketball's ultimate super fans

In a largely empty Mack arena, the chanting and stomping of a small group of supporters fills the quiet void. Some might describe them as hooligans, but that categorization would be a disservice to the impact they make on the competition at stake. Lining the front row of the student section, Hofstra’s men's club ultimate frisbee team never skips a beat to make their presence felt from tip-off to buzzer. One would be hard-pressed to find a group of more dedicated and engaged fans of Hofstra women’s basketball. The self-proclaimed “Flying Dutchmen” have been frustrating opposing benches and toeing the line between fandom and fanaticism for years.

Men's lacrosse suffers dramatic comeback loss on Senior Day

The Hofstra men’s lacrosse team suffered the same fate in their last home game of the regular season as the women’s lacrosse team did, with both teams falling by the identical score of 13-12 to their respective Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rivals on senior day. For the men’s team however, their heartbreaking loss came at the back end of a fourth quarter collapse that saw them enter the quarter leading 11-8, then going on to give up five goals and score only one in route to the 13-12 loss to Drexel University on Saturday, April 21.

Parrella and Smith set single-season program records in loss to Towson

On an overcast Friday, April 19, the Hofstra women’s lacrosse team lost 13-12 to the Towson University Tigers at James M. Shuart Stadium in their final regular season home game. The team was led by Alyssa Parrella, who tied a career-high seven goals and set a new single-season program record for points, with 86. Also setting a record was Darcie Smith, who set the single-season school record for most draw control wins with 100.
