Hofstra University Athletics announced the hiring of Hillary Fitts as the new head coach for the Hofstra field hockey team.
Hofstra University field hockey fell to the University of Maine 4-1 on Sunday, Oct. 1, less than 24 hours after their 1-2 loss to Drexel University. The Pride’s record falls to 4-6 overall and 0-1 in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play after the weekend.
Despite tallying a career-high 19 saves by goalie Pieke Roos, the Hofstra field hockey team suffered a brutal 2-1 double-overtime loss at home against the Drexel University Dragons, on their tie-breaker with 17 seconds left in the second overtime period Drexel’s Eline Di Leva, put one through the net giving Drexel their 8th win on the year.
On Friday, Sept. 15, the Hofstra University field hockey team lost in their Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) conference opener to the No. 19 University of Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens by a score of 1-0. The Pride falls to 3-4 on the season and 0-1 in the CAA, while the Fightin’ Blue Hens improve to 4-3. Hofstra is now 7-31 all-time against Delaware, with the Pride’s most recent win dating back to 2014.
On Sunday, Sept. 10, the Hofstra University field hockey beat Stonehill College 4-1 at home thanks to a speedy start with two goals in the first five minutes.
The Hofstra University field hockey team took a trip to Alumni Turf of the University at Albany Great Danes, where they were shutout 3-0 in their first road game of the season. With the loss, the Pride dropped just under .500 with a 2-3 record, while Albany improved to .500 with a record of 2-2.
The Hofstra University field hockey team beat the Wagner College Seahawks 2-0, at Hofstra University Field Hockey Stadium on Friday, Sept. 1. After a shutout loss against the Fairfield University Stags on Tuesday, this contest posed as a bounce back opportunity during a busy week for the Pride.
The Hofstra University field hockey team came out flat against the Fairfield University Stags, losing 4-0, at Hofstra University Field Hockey Stadium on Aug. 29. This game was the complete opposite of their season-opening contest where the Pride won 8-0 against Merrimack just days prior.
The Hofstra Pride field hockey team opened their season with a dominating 8-0 win over the Merrimack College Warriors at Hofstra University Field Hockey Stadium on Aug. 26. Coming off the season in which the Pride struggled to find the back of the net on many occasions, the Pride started the season with an offensive masterclass against the Warriors for their first win of the year.
