SCOUTING REPORT: Hofstra women's basketball takes on Delaware State

The Hofstra women’s basketball team takes on the Delaware State University Hornets tonight at 7 p.m. at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Center. The Hornets sit with a 1-3 record, but are coming off a 61-49 win against Wagner College.

Some of the Hornets’ top players to look for tonight include sophomore NaJai Pollard and junior Mikah Aldridge. They are two of the top scorers this season for Delaware State.

Pollard is averaging a double-double in the first four games of the season with 24.8 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game. She is also shooting about 62 percent from the field. Pollard is an offensive weapon that Hofstra must contain to win tonight’s matchup.

As a team, the Hornets are averaging a respectable 64 points per game, but are only shooting 38.5 percent from the field.

Hofstra allows an average of 61 points per game, while averaging 66 points per game on offense. The Pride shoots an average of only 41.6 percent from the field.

The numbers between the two teams are tight and even though the Pride hold a better record at 2-1, this game may come down to a few players stepping up on each side.

The Hornets need Aldridge to step up in tonight’s game so Pollard does not have to continue to carry the weight of the team. Aldridge is averaging 11 points per game, so bringing that number up is a big key for the Hornets’ success.

Hofstra’s key to tonight’s game is to shut down Pollard as she is the most explosive offensive weapon for the Hornets.

Both teams have a heavy task ahead of them, which usually means an exciting game. Hofstra is coming off of a loss against Navy, so they will be looking to get back into the win column as Delaware State look to continue their winning ways.
