One year ago, on December 3, 2009, students across Hofstra University receieved an email from President Stuart Rabinowitz explaining that the school had made the decision to cut its football program after 69 years. Although Northeastern University reached the same decision just over a week earlier, it nevertheless took students by surprise that Hofstra, with a relatively rich football tradition, suffered a similar blow.

After scoring a touchdown Monday night, one Patriots player won't be celebrating by doing the Dougie, instead he is being reprimanded for his actions earlier in the evening. 

Jets fans around the country had a ton of anxiety lifted Monday as the team finally put an end to the Darrelle Revis holdout. The Jets and their star cornerback agreed to 4 years and $42 million, $32 million of that guaranteed.

1. The freshman are for real
Freshman pitcher Olivia Galati of the Hofstra softball team and freshman forward Shante Evans of the women's basketball team are legitimate superstars.

Lost in the wash that was the NFL Draft last week, is the fact that after this season the NFL could be dealing with a work stoppage. This season is the last in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which has been in place since 1994. The potential for a lockout is even having an affect on this coming season. For example, there will be no salary cap or minimum or maximum.

NFL Draft Day 1 Winners:
Seattle Seahawks: Any team picking twice in the top 14 should be a winner but the Seahawks did a nice job with their picks.

On Monday, the New York Jets announced they acquired wide receiver Santonio Holmes in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers for a fifth round pick. Trading for the dynamic receiver was the latest move in what has been a dynamic off-season for GM Mike Tanenbaum and the Jets.

1. St. Louis Rams – Sam Bradford – QB – Oklahoma
Bradford injured his shoulder twice this past year but appears to be the consensus number one overall pick in the 2010 draft. The Rams released previous starter Mark Bulger in early April and need to fill the hole. Bradford won the Heisman Trophy and put up gaudy passing numbers as a sophomore in 2008-09.

I was right. The final score was 31-17. It was just everything else I was wrong about. Peyton Manning was not the best player on the field. It was Drew Brees. Far and away. The Saint's defense existed and came up with the biggest play of the game (Tracy Porter's interception return for a touchdown).

He's one of the most efficient quarterbacks the game has ever seen, has proven he knows how to win in the playoffs, and one of his favorite targets is Pierre Garcon. And who knows, maybe someday Peyton Manning will be as good as him.

In late November, rumors regarding the potential dismissal of the University's former head football coach Dave Cohen were flying wildly around campus and on internet message boards.

It is that time of year again.  The NFL regular season is winding down, and that means it is crunch time for the teams fighting to secure a playoff spot.  Both conferences can boast an undefeated team (New Orleans, Indianapolis), and the Chargers, Bengals, Vikings, and Cardinals can almost taste the postseason.

Next fall James M. Shuart Stadium will host football, but to the chagrin of many athletes, students and alum, it won't the Pride running out onto the field. 69 years old, the Hofstra Pride football team ceases to exist after a decision to cut the program came about last Wednesday evening after the Broad of Trustees meeting.
