It's official, camel is the color of the season. The previously bland color is now splashed over fall's hottest accessories. Designers like Michael Kors, Salvatore Ferragamo and Gucci are all embracing the chicness of the not-cognac, not-brown color on runways and in boutiques this season. But who says you need the big bucks to get in on the camel action? Plenty of reasonably-priced stores are beginning to sell camel-colored items, so it won't hurt your wallet to start injecting the color into your fall wardrobe.
To start using camel appropriately, you don't want to be dressed head-to-toe in the color, even though it's more on the neutral side. Try to mix and match. For instance, If you'd rather not buy a camel-colored shoe, how about trying a cork wedge-heel? The neutralness of the cork will practically blend with almost any color of your choosing.
Don't waste your money on a designer clutch that you only plan on wearing a few times. You can pick up an affordable one at Forever 21. Keep in mind that you'll get more for your money if you spend it on a handbag that you'll wear all season. The same goes for the guys: a well-made messenger bag will go a long way, so make sure that you're splurging and saving in the right places.
Camel looks best as a leather, or woven accessory. It's a natural color that deserves a natural look, so it's best to leave patent leather for the brighter colors. You can match camel with gold embellishments and cream colored-compliments (a cream, tan or beige blouse will bring out the richness in the camel). Never mix camel with cognac (another great fall color), which is a darker shade. You'll wind up looking awkward and mismatched.
These accessories will give any outfit that extra oomph, and may even get you some compliments. Use the color wisely and you'll be sure to look as sophisticated as ever.
