Parents, if you have ever wanted to really see how much bang your kids are getting for your buck; if you've ever wanted proof that the tens of thousands of dollars you willingly spent in the hopes that your child would enroll in English courses that would teach them to expand their creative voice while cementing the fundamentals of language, you needn't look any further than the Internet gossip ring of collegeacb.com.
"ACB" stands for Anonymous Comment Board: literally, a cyber sewing circle where jealous and miffed students have the opportunity to amass all of the useful grammar and literary prowess that they have honed and sharpened along their worldly travels in order to publish biting and vicious rumors about one another behind their backs, without having to attach any responsibility for their actions. Like describing certain girls as "cheating skanks" or "Unexpedidly hot"[sic]. Or this gem:
"Y'all best be haten on sammie naw cuz Y'allz knowsz I deontt knowz how throos a deecent pertie at Haafstra"
Really, what is the matter with this person? Many universities have boards of this nature, but Hofstra's ACB ranks especially high on the hateful mud-slinging list. Many of the topics on the board exist for the sole purpose of singling out individual students in order to talk trash them. Like this anonymous post:
[On Zach Parker]- "The biggest douchebag freshman? Thoughts?
-total racist who thinks hes the s--t. tried to get with me by talking about "how much n--gers take up space on this planet." I would never ever f--king say that to anyone.. sorry youre not even cute and I dont go for racist little f--ks like you.
- He is a douchebag but Cody Heintz is a bigger one and he is also such a god dam homophobic b--ard who makes zac parker look like a decent guy
- first thing he ever told me was how he was getting some "n--ger food' at kennedy chicken. f--king a--hat"
It's worse than you may think. Anyone from any college can see or create posts made in regards to other schools, and evidently with no moderation. Posts like this one are aggravated outbursts targeting a specific person or group of people, and approach hateful and even violent echelons:
[On Team Tits]- "Ew, those girls think theyre SO cool because they didnt do sororities, when in reality NO sorority wanted them. Half of them are depledges and the other half never even were considered for bids. FACE IT TEAM TITS all you are is fat, ugly, trashy, sorority-wannabee, frat-chasing nasty a-- skanks. You think sororities want you and frats are your friends when meanwhile both make fun of you all the time, ESPECIALLY THE FRATS."
For the most part, it is a showcase of all of the worst things in us. Whether or not a group of thirty Internet strangers can agree on who has the biggest tits in this school seems like a topic worth examining, but the majority of the visitors to the site are there because they have a cross to burn.
Most of the people who actually voice their opinions on other people often declare that they [aren't well-liked] or [have no friends]. But really, if you are hopeless enough to lurk through this kind of trash just so you can feel like you belong to something, then maybe it is you who is the jerk/loser with no friends.
