Hi.

Welcome to the official, independent student-run newspaper of Hofstra University!

Letter to the Editor

By Luke Moseley, Junior television production and political science student

Enough is enough! Hofstra students deserve a reliable and convenient shuttle service from the Mineola train station when returning from the city late on weekends. In the past two weeks alone, both of my experiences with the service have been disasters. After sitting in a shuttle parked in the train station lot for 30 minutes, earlier this month, I realized that our driver had fallen asleep at the steering wheel while her passengers waited patiently to return back to school.

Just this past Friday, I stood outside in the rain with other Hofstra students in Mineola, waiting for the 11:10pm shuttle whose driver decided to not show up. These are just two examples of the many bad experiences I've had with the shuttle over the past three years.

It's time for the Department of Public Safety to hold its drivers accountable for their actions and create a shuttle schedule that is logical. There is no need for the shuttle to drop students off in Hempstead a full 30 minutes before the hourly train is scheduled to depart during the day. It is equally ridiculous to create a late night schedule in Mineola that forces students to wait a full hour before getting a ride back to school. For the price of attending Hofstra, we deserve an efficient way to enjoy the city on the weekend.
