The Student Government Association unanimously approved a $36 annual increase in student activity fees that would go into effect next academic year-if the increase is approved by University administration. The money would go directly into the SGA's coffers so they can dole it out to clubs.

By Michael D'Innocenzo, professor of history, has received the Eugene Asher Distinguished Teaching Award from the American Historical Association (AHA). The Eugene Asher Distinguished Teaching Award aims to acknowledge teachers "whose techniques and mastery of subject matter made a real difference to students of history," according to a University Relations press release.

President-elect Barack Obama made it official on Monday: Hillary Clinton will be the next Secretary of State. This announcement came after much speculation as to who Obama would ultimately pick as his Secretary of State, a list that included politicians such as Sen.

The University's Law School proudly announced an 87.6 percent success rate for first time students taking the New York Bar exam on Nov. 26. Of the 290 first-timers from the University, 254 passed. This percentage is an increase of 3.1 percent from last year's pass rate and the New York exam's overall pass rate was 74.

U.S. News and Princeton Review weigh in on the University's business programs The Frank G. Zarb School of Business recently received a prestigious ranking as one of the nations best business schools. According to the U.S. News and World Report and the Princeton Review, The Zarb School of Business was ranked 121 out of all Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business undergraduate business programs.

Dr. Balbinder Singh Bhogal was officially installed as the Sardarni Kuljit Kaur Bindra Chair in Sikh Studies at a convocation on Wednesday from 3-5 p.m. in the University Club. Dr. Bhogal has been with the University since fall 2007, when his appointment to the chair position was effective.

On Nov. 26, three University students received summonses when they were found smoking a hookah with marijuana residue in their Vander Poel dorm room. On Nov. 26, a fight broke out in front of Constitution Hall and one student received a summons after Public Safety ran the license plate of his car as the group of students fled.

Joe Margiotta, a University alum who donated millions of dollars and had a campus building named for him, died Friday. He was 81. Margiotta, class of 1950, was a longtime supporter of the University. He assisted in several expansion projects in the years since his graduation, including the construction of the first Unispan, the establishment of the Law School and the development of the Hofstra Stadium, according to University Relations.

The women's basketball team is looking to turn things around after a dismal season last year, and things are looking up as they have youth on their side. In addition to sophomore point guard Candace Bellocchio, the team has received a much appreciated boost from freshman CAA Rookie of the Week, Joelle Connelly.

From Africa to Iceland and back, senior anthropology major Kelly Goldberg is slowly working her way around the globe, taking advantage of every opportunity to put herself ahead of her peers. Two years ago, Goldberg worked with the anthropology department to begin communications with an African school located in Toga.
