East Meadow
A 52-year-old female victim was working behind a sales desk inside Cingular Wireless on Hempstead Tpke. on Nov. 27, when she observed an unknown black male subject grab two cell phones and put them in his coat pocket. The victim had previously taken the subject's license for the purposes of running a credit check and the subject also grabbed his paper work before fleeing the store. Attempting to wrest the phones back from the subject, the victim sustained minor injury to her hand.
Cedarhurst
The Lawrence Cedarhurst fire department responded to an unoccupied home on Clinton Ave. for a working house fire on Dec. 1. The fire was extinguished with four department trucks and 25 firefighters. The fire is under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshall and the Arson Bomb Squad.
Glen Cove
Thirty-five firefighters and four trucks from the Glen Cove fire department responded to and extinguished a fire of undetermined cause inside St. Rocco's Bakery on Dec. 2. Damage to the business was extensive. Two employees were inside the business at the time, but no injuries were reported. An investigation is ongoing.
Levittown
German Zamora, 24, of Butler Ave. brought his personal home computer into the Best Buy on Hempstead Tpke. for service on Dec. 1. The service technician observed files believed to contain child pornography and called the police.
Manhasset
A 30-year-old victim was receiving a massage inside Georgette Klinger Salon on Nov. 25, when defendant Depeche Cassea, 40, of Nesconset, touched intimate parts of her body more than once. The victim reported the incident to police, who, after investigation, arrested Cassea on Nov. 27.
Massapequa
Fernando Negron, 26, and Dave Mercado, 27, removed an unassembled foosball game table from the foyer of Sports Authority on Sunrise Highway on Dec. 2, but were detained by store security in the parking lot. A struggle ensued during which a security guard sustained a minor injury to his neck and throat.
New Cassel
Roofers were working on Tiffany Retirement Community on School Street on Nov. 30, when a fire occurred. Westbury fire department responded to extinguish the fire. Three firefighters were injured and 62 residents were displaced. The building suffered extensive roof damage.
North Bellmore
AMT Regis Beneville, 34, was responding to a 911 call in a Nassau County Police Department Ambulance on Nov. 29 traveling northbound on Newbridge Road when an occupant of a smaller dark-colored four door car tossed a piece of wood, about the size of a log, at the ambulance. The object traveled through the open driver's side window striking the victim in the head causing him to lose control of the vehicle and strike a utility pole.
North Merrick
A USPS mail carrier conducting a pick-up from a mailbox on Meadowbrook Road on Dec. 1 discovered what detectives describe as a soup-can-sized firecracker inside. Flames from the device, which had extinguished itself before it was discovered, caused damage to several pieces of mail and the interior of the mailbox.
Unknown subjects intentionally set a fire using a firework display and a large amount of leaves under a 1994 Dodge van parked on Rhode Ave. on Dec. 1. Merrick fire department responded and extinguished the fire. The fire caused moderate damage to the van, which was released to the owner.
Uniondale
Two unknown male subjects entered Ting Ho Kitchens on Front Street on Dec 1., and approached the counter displaying handguns. The two demanded that an employee open the cash register, from which the subjects removed an undisclosed amount of cash. The subjects fled with the proceeds where they were observed entering a 2-door, grey or silver, possibly 2000-2002 Honda hatchback, which proceeded southbound. The subjects are described as black males, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 160 pounds, one wearing all black clothing and the other wearing a blue denim jacket and a red bandanna over his face.
Westbury
A fire due to careless cooking caused extensive damage to the single-family home located on Harvard Street. Fire departments from Westbury, East Williston and Carle Place responded with seven fire trucks and 50 firefighters to extinguish the blaze. One of four occupants of the house was transported to Winthrop University Hospital for treatment of minor burns to her hands.
Woodbury
Jaelyn Chee, 20, of Leupp, Ariz. offered to engage in sexual intercourse with an undercover officer for an agreed upon price of $200 in an area motel on Nov. 27.
